Note from the Principals

Dear Frank Love Families,

What an incredibly uplifting and fun week this has been for so many of us as we welcomed back students to the schoolhouse.  To see the students’ smiling eyes and how much they have grown over the past year is truly heartwarming.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we have worked to make the arrival and dismissal procedures run as smoothly as possible over these past few days. We have two thirds of our students being picked up by caregivers which is a high volume to manage.  Please help by not arriving too early (students are not dismissed until a few minutes before 3:10), by displaying  the pick up number on the passenger side window and pulling as far up the queue as possible. This will make the pickup process go more smoothly.

Dr. Reid will visit Frank Love right after Spring Break!  This is her annual school visit where she will visit each classroom virtually and have a chance to meet with families as well.  Please plan to join Dr. Reid and us on the morning of April 23rd.  More information with time and zoom link will be shared closer to the day.

The Frank Love Staff wishes you a very fun and relaxing spring break!

Sincerely,
Katy French, Principal
Denise Waters, Assistant Principal

HiCap Screening & Assessment

Students in Grade 1 will be universally screened for highly capable services after spring break. Every school will have a designated two week time period between spring break and the end of school. The Accelerated Models and Programs Department will email families with first grade students to let them know the two week period of time their school will participate in screening and assessments. The schedule will also be posted online along with more information about the screening and assessment process. Please note that we will NOT have time to accommodate vacations or absences this year until after school is out. If you wish to participate in highly capable screening and assessment, please plan to be at school during the weeks your student’s school participates in testing. Please direct any questions to hicap@nsd.org.

Students in Grades 2 and 3: Referred students in grades 2 and 3 should receive an email from the Accelerated Models and Programs Department before the end of spring break. We will also invite students who are new to Northshore as of October of 2019 to be part of our screening and assessment process. Second and third grade students need to complete the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (NNAT3) by May 7. We will invite those who qualify to take the Iowa Assessments in reading and math. We will offer testing until Wednesday, May 26.  Please direct any questions to hicap@nsd.org.

Students in Grade 4:  Referred students in grade 4 should have completed their screening and assessment for highly capable services by the end of spring break. Screening and assessment results will be mailed for all fourth grade students who were referred and participated shortly after spring break. Please direct any questions to hicap@nsd.org.

Thank you,
Accelerated Models and Programs Department

Covid Batch Testing

Soon you will receive communication from the district regarding Covid batch testing occurring for 2nd-5th graders at Frank Love. Once you receive that information, we will send you a link so you can register or opt out of testing. The code we will send you will be unique to our school and will allow us to know which students and staff are participating in this important method of keeping COVID cases low and school buildings open.

A few key points to emphasize:

  • Your child will only be tested if you give your consent.

  • To opt out your child, you will receive a link.

  • If a student or staff member is opted out of testing, but their classroom cohort has a positive COVID test result, they will still be required to quarantine for 14 days

We will offer a Zoom meeting once we have more information.

Message from the School Counselor

Dear Frank Love Families,

Lunch Bunch: Lunch Bunch is now on WEDNESDAYS so that all students, hybrid and remote will be able to join and socialize with each other. When we return from break our theme will be “Spring Break Sharing: Bring an item or story to share about your week off from school!”

Lunch Bunch Schedule on Wednesdays:
K/1 11:00-11:30
2nd 11:30-12:00
3rd 12:00-12:30
4/5 12:30-1:00

Problem Solving: As students are starting back at school, natural conflict between peers will happen. In the next few weeks, I will be reviewing problem solving strategies through the Cheetah Coalition. Students who are in remote classrooms can also use these skills for solving problems virtually or with siblings at home! I will be using the conflict management system, “Kelso’s Choice”, to demonstrate problem solving strategies. For more information and to learn the strategies check out Kelso's Choice for Parents.

Take care,
Mrs. Weber
