Message from the School Counselor
Letter from the Principal
Dear Frank Love Families,
This past week, we had the pleasure of sharing our Strategic Action Plan with Dr. Reid. We want to share our plan with you. Our plan captures the spirit of the Frank Love Motto.
At Frank Love...
We believe in ourselves and in each other.
We are resilient learners.
We know that everyone is unique and valuable to our community.
We believe we can overcome any obstacle by supporting one another.
Each year we set two school-wide goals. Both involve student growth.
Our first goal focuses on literacy. We notice a particular need in strengthening our students' performance in phonics and vocabulary. We are committed to increasing reading and writing proficiency for all students through individual targeted instruction and iReady lessons.
Here you will find a resource on Phonics and Decoding.
Our second goal focuses on Social-Emotional Learning. We notice a particular need in strengthening our students’ ability to problem solve.
We are committed to Responsible Decision-Making which is defined as:
The abilities to make caring and constructive choices about personal behavior and social interactions across diverse situations. This includes the capacities to consider ethical standards and safety concerns, and to evaluate the benefits and consequences of various actions for personal, social, and collective well-being. -Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL)(2021). What is The Casel Framework. CASEL. https://casel.org/fundamentals-of-sel/what-is-the-casel-framework/#responsible)
Here is an article about Problem Solving.
Finally, our Equity focus is committing to knowing and including families and students. We are intent on moving from reflecting on the impacts of our biases to taking visible action that builds relationships and intentionally cultivates a sense of belonging.
Thank you for partnering with us!
Sincerely,
Katy French and Sara Davis
Mask Reminder
Due to a legal mandate, masks must be worn in all indoor settings regardless of vaccination status. Masks must cover your mouth and nose.
The District is experiencing a mask shortage! Please make sure your student comes to school with a mask on and a few extras in their backpack. Cloth masks are a great option because they can be washed and reused.
Latino Parents Meeting
The meeting is: December 7, 10:30am and 6:30pm via Zoom
We invite parents to connect with our Latino community group. This is an opportunity for parents to get informed about school, meet other parents and partner with the school to support our students to thrive in their education.
CLIC AQUI PARA ENTRAR A LA REUNION
We welcome any Frank Love parent who is interested in participating. We look forward to empowering parents to be actively involved in their kids' education and guide them to success.
Please contact Patricia Herrera if you have any questions. 425-408-6034; pherrera@nsd.org.
Lost and Found
Our lost and found is overflowing! It is getting really cold out and we want all of our students to be bundled up. If your student has misplaced something, please have them check the lost and found. The lost and found jackets are located on a rack in the main corridor after you enter the black gates.

Mobile Clinics at Your Student's School (5-11 years of age):
NSD continues with planning and scheduling clinics that will take place at your student’s school during the school day based on availability of community resources. Check back periodically at the following link for more details and updates: https://www.nsd.org/covid19/vaccinations/covid-19-vaccination-clinics-5-11
Additionally, if you have questions about COVID vaccination and your child, it is highly recommended to reach out to your child’s primary care provider to discuss the current COVID vaccine recommendations as it relates to your child’s current health plan.
Reminder! Students who have even mild symptoms of illness cannot come to school until certain conditions have been met:
"What to do if a Person is Symptomatic at School"
If your student is not feeling well on any school day, please keep them home and notify the attendance office of the reason for absence.
The following are possible symptoms of Covid-19 and your student must stay home if even one of these symptoms are present. Contact the school for guidance for returning to school: nasal congestion or runny nose, cough (new, changed, or worsening), nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, fatigue, sore throat. Fever > 100.4, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, muscle or body aches, new loss of taste or smell
Where to send Covid-19 test results:
frankloveattendance@nsd.org
Negative test results may come from district testing sites (Pop Keeney), a health care provider, local health jurisdiction, pharmacy, or other community-based test sites. School Batch Tests are a screening tool and do not qualify. Proof of a negative Covid-19 test includes the original, a copy, or a photo of a document or other communication from the test provider or laboratory that shows:
-
The first and last names of the individual tested.
-
The type of test performed (must be molecular or antigen).
-
The date the specimen was collected (must be on or after day 5 post-exposure).
-
A negative result.
FLU SEASON IS HERE!
A seasonal flu vaccine is recommended for everyone ages six months and older who does not have a contraindication (a medical reason you should not receive an influenza vaccine).
A flu vaccine is a safe and effective way to get your immune system ready for flu season. An army of antibodies will be on guard to protect you from the inside when the flu virus threatens on the outside.
Flu vaccination can reduce symptoms that may be confused with COVID. It is now more important than ever to keep healthcare systems from being overwhelmed.

Technology Update
2nd-5th grade families - It is important for students to restart the Chromebook at least once a week. This will keep it running better and update it. Students should get in the habit of charging their Chromebook every school night so it has a full battery each school day.
If students or families need assistance with technology issues, please use this link to let us know http://go.nsd.org/studenttechhelp. You can also contact Julie Hert at jhert@nsd.org.
Message from the School Counselor
Hello Families,
I know I felt a lot of strong emotions after learning about the Oxford High school shooting, followed by the district email regarding the threat at Bothell High School. I wanted to provide some resources for talking to your children about these types of events, which they may have heard about on the news, at school or social media.
Guide to Talking to Kids about Attacks
Helping Your Children Manage Distress in the Aftermath of a Shooting
Let children know that you are there to listen and care about them. Try to keep your responses to questions short, direct, honest, and reassuring. Reassure students that they can and should feel safe in school. Shift childrens' focus back to what they can control, such as going to adults for help, sharing their concerns and feelings, and practicing and following safety protocols together. Let them know that we are all working together to keep each other safe here at our school.
December SEL Calendar: Please see this calendar for ideas for SEL activities at home.
Family Resources: If you are in need of resources for the holidays, please see this list Holiday Assistance/Asistencia para las Festividades 2021.
Please fill out this form to find out about resources in our community for families in need, and we will contact you when we hear about available resources.

Dismissal Reminder
If you need to pick up your student early please notify the office ahead of time either phone 425-408-4600 or email frankloveattendance@nsd.org. Once you arrive on campus please call to let us know you have arrived. We do not release students after 3:15pm on a regular day or 1:45pm on early release Wednesdays.
Please be mindful of your student's schedule. If a student is at recess or in specialists it may take a little longer for them to gather their things. It is always a good idea to get here a little early to give your student plenty of time to gather their belongings.
Substitute Employment in NSD
NSD is hiring for both classified and certificated substitutes. Those that are interested can apply online through the NSD website.
NSD is also hiring for substitute nurses and permanent school nurse positions. Those that are interested can apply online through the NSD website.
Additionally, we are hiring emergency classroom substitute teachers for Frank Love. This position requires a desire to work with children, a willingness to step in and manage a classroom last minute, and a 4 year degree, however it doesn’t have to be in education. If you wish to become an emergency classroom sub for Frank Love, please reach out to Shannon Upchurch, Office Manager at supchurch@nsd.org or 425-408-4601.
After we have your information and Mrs. French attaches her recommendation, the sub office will reach out to you with next steps.
