Letter from the Principal

Dear Frank Love Families,

Many thanks to staff, families, and students who contributed to the success of our Festival of cultures last Friday night. We had over 16 booths that showcased food, artifacts and information about various cultures represented by our families. We also had performances by individual students and community groups to entertain and teach us. Every student in our school had a project on display around the school to share “The Me I Want The World To See”. It was a joyous celebration of diversity and an awesome example of the gifts and brilliance each individual brings to our school. We are so lucky as a community to be able to see each other and honor and embrace our differences and learn from one another.

On Tuesday the staff had the opportunity to celebrate and thank our volunteers. Many volunteers came out to be recognized and be in community together. During the meeting the PTA honored 2 individuals with the Golden Acorn Award. This award recognizes our volunteers who have made a significant impact on the broader community.  Congratulations Katie Long and Renae Sowald!

With a little over 3 weeks of school left, there’s a lot of excitement in the air. Families, thank for supporting and encouraging your child to finish out the year strong by helping your them get to school on time and get plenty of rest so they can get the most out of the short time we have left.

Enjoy the 3 day weekend in remembrance of those who gave their lives while serving in the armed forces.

Note from our School Counselor

Hello Families,

In kindergarten I have been using the “Little Spot” books by Diane Alber to revisit identifying and managing emotions. Students finished their own Little Spot books where they wrote and drew about their feelings. Check out Diane Alber’s website and youtube channel for access to many of her books if you would like to read more at home.

Our third graders interviewed family members about their “career” and we shared these in class during my lesson. Thank you to those family members who shared about their jobs! The students enjoyed learning about some interesting careers. In 4th and 5th grade I have been using My Next Move for students to explore career options. They enjoyed discussing career options with each other, including finding out job requirements, education and salary.

See the June SEL calendar for fun SEL activities at home!

Recess Volunteers: We would welcome adult volunteers to help supervise and facilitate fun at recess time. Please contact me to get started!

Please fill out this form to find out about resources in our community for families in need, and we will contact you when we hear about available resources.

Health Room News

Current Medication at School

We are making plans to close out the school year. This includes ensuring any medication your child has in the Health Room will get home in a safe manner. Please make arrangements to pick up the medication at school. If the only medication your child has is an inhaler you may have your child pick up the inhaler to take home. All other medications need to be picked up by a parent/guardian. We cannot keep any medications over the summer. Medications for life threatening conditions cannot be picked up until after school on the last day your student is attending this year.

Any medication left in the building after 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 20th will be destroyed.

Covid Symptom and Exposure Decision Tree

Even minor illness symptoms may indicate a Covid infection. A covid test is recommended. Regardless of results, students need to stay home until symptoms have greatly improved, and no fever, vomiting, or diarrhea within 24 hours of returning to school, without the use of medication to control those symptoms.

Technology Support

End of school year iPad & Chromebook preparation:

For current Kindergarten and 1st Grade families:
Families of students currently in grades K and 1 who wish to check out an iPad for summer learning need to indicate so by completing the form at http://go.nsd.org/techoptin by Friday, June 9th.  Students and families are expected to care for the device and use it only for learning purposes.  The device must be returned to school on or before the first day of the 2023-24 school year.   If the form is not completed an iPad will not be sent home for the summer.

For current 2nd-5th Grade families:
2nd-5th Grade students will keep their assigned devices over the summer for use next school year (including students shifting to middle school).  Students and families are expected to care for the device and use it only for learning purposes.  The device must be returned to school on or before the first day of the 2023-24 school year.

Families may not need or want to take their student’s device home over the summer. Families who wish to opt out of keeping their student’s assigned device will need to indicate that they are “opting out” by completing the form at https://go.nsd.org/optout by Friday, June 9th.  When students return to school in the Fall, any student who does not have an assigned device will be assigned one for school year learning.

For Northshore School District Withdrawing families:
Families who are withdrawing from Northshore are expected to return any technology devices assigned to their student, including computers, tablets, hotspots and all accessories such as bags and chargers.  Our school will be collecting devices on Monday, June 12th. A classroom device will be available for student use during the last week of school. Withdrawing students who do not return their devices and accessories will be issued a fine for replacement.

Thank you.

Champions

How students start and end their day is just as important as their experience during the school day. There are many opportunities within our community for parents who need support for their children either before and/or after school. Champions is one of many care options, and is located on Frank Love Elementary campus. Champions has space in both before school and after school programs for this school year and next school year.

If you are concerned about the financial burden of childcare, there are resources for that. You may qualify for tuition assistance.

Reach out to Frank Love Champions Site Director, Aubrie Seek, to learn more.
