Conference Week - Early Release
Note from our School Counselor
Letter from the Principal
Dear Frank Love Families,
This week many of you may have met with your child’s teacher and were able to learn about their progress and the brilliance they bring to their classroom and Frank Love. Understanding their progress and setting goals is an important part of empowering students to have agency in their education. We will continue to focus on empowerment as a school wide value through December, and beyond. Below are some suggested strategies if you would like to support this at home:
-
Help your child find their passion
-
Recognize when your child participates and shares their thoughts
-
Encourage debate and expression of ideas and opinions
-
Help your child problem solve, analyze and research issues and ideas
We have seen an uptick in student illnesses and absences in the last few weeks. This would be considered normal for the start of cold and flu season, but the numbers that are being reported are much higher than typical. Please remember to keep your students home if they are having cold or flu symptoms and report to our attendance line or email Charlotte Salus at frankloveattendance@nsd.org.
Stay well and have a wonderful weekend.
In Partnership,
Katy French and Sara Davis

Health Room News
We are experiencing high rates of illness at Frank Love Elementary and across Western Washington.
Snohomish County has issued a Health Advisory: INCREASED RESPIRATORY VIRUS ACTIVITY IMPACTING CHILDREN AND HEALTHCARE SYSTEM
November 8, 2022
https://www.snohd.org/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=730
We have consulted our Snohomish Health District Contact for advice on how we can help our school community get through this season of high illness rates:
“Advice I have been giving other schools is to make sure to do extra cleanings, send messaging to parents to keep sick kids home, make sure everyone got their flu shots, and if possible, have the kids do increased handwashing and mask to reduce respiratory droplet transmission.”
We will be doing additional cleaning of high touch surfaces at school. We ask our families to keep ill students home, test for Covid for any new onset of illness symptoms, and do not send ill students back to school until symptoms are significantly improved. Students should be free of fever, vomiting, or diarrhea for 24 hours prior to return, without the use of fever-reducing medication. Masks are also recommended if your student is still having respiratory symptoms during recovery. Masks can also help your child prevent illness at this time of high circulation of respiratory viruses.
When our illness rates are higher than 10%, we are required to report the symptoms and diagnosed illnesses to the health department so please provide that information when you report your student’s absence.
Below are some wellness resources from the Snohomish Health District:
WASH YOUR HANDS
Teaching kids to wash their hands well is one of the best ways to reduce germs, especially with all of the messes little hands get into. Washing your hands might seem like a simple thing, but remember that it is a skill and it has to be learned. Hands are an ideal place for germs to hitch a ride, so teaching kids to wash their hands is one of the best ways to keep them healthy. It may take time, patience and reinforcement to teach them well. Find what works for your kids, and stick with it.

COVID AND FLU VACCINES
COVID-19 vaccination is now available for children ages 5 and older, and vaccines are expected to become available for younger children in the future. Vaccination greatly reduces the likelihood of severe illness from a COVID infection. There is no cost for the COVID-19 vaccine.
Learn more on our COVID-19 Vaccine page.
Annual flu shots are available for children ages 6 months and older, and are recommended before or during flu season. It’s a good idea to get your flu shot and your child’s flu shot by the end of October.
Handwashing activity: English and Spanish
