Frank Love PTA

Letter from the Principal

Last Friday, October 28th, we enjoyed a Pajama themed BINGO night. We had a HUGE turnout!  PTA set out 200 chairs and they were all filled with floor seating only! It was another wonderful opportunity for families to make community connections and share a fun activity.

This year 3rd through 5th graders have the opportunity to hold school leadership roles. They will be capturing student voices across the school with the intention of infusing student perspective into Frank Love’s school culture. Today we had our first spirit day, 90’s day! Staff and students donned flannel, bucket hats, overalls, and other fun 90’s era regalia.

As a reminder, daylight saving time ends on Saturday, November 6. Don’t forget to turn your clocks back 1 hour. Changes in time can interrupt typical sleep routines. For elementary students the CDC recommends 9-12 hours of sleep each night. The lower range is intended for older students while K-2 kiddos do better with the higher end of the range.

Wednesday, November 9th will be our Veterans Day assembly. Our fabulous music teachers, Ms. Murphy and Ms. Barber, have planned to honor veterans and showcase our students. Please join us at 9:45 to celebrate staff and community veterans.

Have a great weekend!

Library News

Reading Plans (formerly called overdue notices)

Next week you will receive an e-mail from the library with a list of books your Cheetah Reader has checked out.  The purpose of the e-mail is to keep you informed about the books your reader has borrowed.  If your reader needs a little help getting books back to the library, AND you will be coming to Frank Love for Family Conferences, please consider bringing back any books your reader is done with.  Of course, you can keep the books that are still being read.

When they bring books back, they get to choose more! Happy Reading!

Seeking Donations - Puzzles!

There are a lot of ways our Cheetah Readers find comfort and belonging in our   library. Many of our readers find calm and friendship while working on a puzzle with a   classmate.

If you have puzzles (floor puzzles, wooden/foam, or 25 -300 pieces) that you would be willing to donate to the library, we’d LOVE them!  We will   use them in the library AND many will be made available to students for   check out from our NEW Take and Play section in the library.

Library Volunteers Needed

The library is always looking for additional volunteers to assist with check out, shelving and special projects.  If you would like to serve as a library helper during your student’s weekly visit, or at some other time, please email Rebecca Wynkoop at Thank you for supporting our Cheetah Readers!

Veterans Day Assembly

Today is the LAST DAY to turn in materials for the Veterans Day Assembly.

Frank Love Elementary will be having a short assembly honoring our Veterans on Wednesday, November 9th, at 9:45AM in the school Gym.

We would like to invite relatives of our students who have served in the Armed Forces to attend this program.  We would love to have you wear or bring your uniform if possible!  We would also love to have the Veteran guests say a few words about who they are and how they served our country. Please print off and return the bottom portion of this invitation to the office by Friday, November 4th to be included in the assembly.

In addition:

We will be putting together a slideshow for ALL Veteran relatives of our students and staff to show at the assembly. Please open the example slide, edit, and send it to Mrs. Murphy by Friday, November 4th to have your slides included in the assembly presentation.

Thank you!

Note from our School Counselor

Hello Families,

Emotion Regulation: I often work with students on emotional regulation and dealing with strong feelings. My goal is for students to learn tools to help regulate their own emotions. We use these tools  to help us calm down when we are feeling out of control. Here are some of the tools  that I teach students that you may find helpful to practice at home.

  • Take a deep breath (increased oxygen helps the brain to calm down)

  • Count to 10

  • Take a break

  • Take a walk

  • Enjoy nature

  • Squeeze a fidget ball or stuffed animal

  • Think happy thoughts (think of your favorite person, place or thing, or something you are looking forward to)

  • Take control of your self-talk (Tell yourself “You can do it” or “It’s ok”)

  • Think about the size of the problem (“It’s not that big of deal”)

  • Talk to an adult

Here is the November SEL calendar for fun SEL activities at home.

Family Resources: Please check out Clothes For Kids for a free clothing resource for Northshore families.

Please fill out this form to find out about resources in our community for families in need, and we will contact you when we hear about available resources.
