Letter from the Principal

Dear Frank Love Families,

Time flies! I can’t believe it’s already November!  Soon you will be able to connect with your children’s teachers during conference week and should have a good idea of how they are doing academically and socially.  The staff at Frank Love is dedicated to supporting our students and helping them form habits that will help them be lifelong learners.

Key factors for academic success:

Grit
Did you know that a key factor that contributes to students’ success in school has to do with something called “grit”?  Grit is persistence over time to overcome challenges and to attain goals.  Adults can help students build their “grit” by helping children to:

  • identify goals and help them plan steps to accomplish their goals.

  • practice persistance.  Help them to stay motivated to complete even the most difficult tasks.

  • practice self-control and avoid being distracted.

  • have a positive mindset by embracing challenges and be okay with not “getting it” right away.

When we help children learn how to extend effort to overcome challenges, we help them become more confident learners.

Sleep
While putting effort into learning is a key factor of school success, so is being well rested.  Did you know children need the following amount of sleep each night?  Enough sleep helps children regulate their mood and behavior and helps them to learn. Try getting in at least a half an hour more sleep each night. You’ll notice the difference!

Age Hours of Sleep
3-5 years 11-13
5-12 years 10-11

Sincerely,We see you as important partners in the work we do to help students be successful learners. The staff and I are delighted to be spending our days with your children.

Katy French, Principal

Health Room News

FLU SEASON IS HERE!

A seasonal flu vaccine is recommended for everyone ages six months and older who does not have a contraindication (a medical reason you should not receive an influenza vaccine).

A flu vaccine is a safe and effective way to get your immune system ready for flu season. An army of antibodies will be on guard to protect you from the inside when the flu virus threatens on the outside.

Flu vaccination can reduce symptoms that may be confused with COVID. It is now more important than ever to keep healthcare systems from being overwhelmed.

Find flu vaccines near you: https://www.vaccines.gov/find-vaccines/

Change of Clothes

All Students need a change of clothes in a plastic bag in their backpacks. Wet or soiled clothes can happen any day, at any age. Due to Covid precautions, we are asking families not to rely on the health room backup supply of clothes.

Used, Clean, Clothing Donations are still needed for the Health Room in the following sizes:

Boys Pants sizes 6 - 16 elastic waist is best

Girls Pants sizes 6 -  16 elastic waist is best

Underwear sizes 6 - 8

Washington State Department of Health updated Covid-19 school guidance so you may notice some changes to the return-to-school guidance if your student has illness symptoms, close contact with a positive Covid-19 case, or has a positive Covid-19 test result.

"What to do if a Person is Symptomatic at School"

Technology Update

2nd-5th grade families - It is important for students to restart the Chromebook at least once a week. This will keep it running better and update it.    Students should get in the habit of charging their Chromebook every school night so it has a full battery each school day.

If students or families need assistance with technology issues, please use this link to let us know http://go.nsd.org/studenttechhelp.  You can also contact Julie Hert at jhert@nsd.org.

Drop Off Reminders

We want to remind our Cheetah family that there are no left-turns allowed when entering the school. Drivers trying to turn left into the school pose a hazard to our patrol students as well as walking families. Please exit right only when exiting the parking lot.
