Frank Love PTA

Letter from the Principal

Dear Frank Love Families,

This past month we have been working diligently on building our 2022-23 Strategic Action Plan (SAP). The SAP is a document that outlines our Frank Love goals for the school year and is updated each year. Each year we set two school-wide goals. Both involve student growth. We identify these goals by closely examining our student data in all areas to find  where we need to focus our attention. We want to share our plan with you. As we build our SAP we keep the Frank Love Motto central to our guiding intentions.

At Frank Love...

We believe in ourselves and in each other.

We are resilient learners.

We know that everyone is unique and valuable to our community.

We believe we can overcome any obstacle by supporting one another.

Our first goal focuses on increasing student voice at Frank Love. In order to continue to create a culture of belonging it is important that we understand our student’s perspective about their experience as a learner and a student at Frank Love. The goal is to see an increase in students who are invested in, and advocate for, their educational goals.  We will be collecting survey data from 3rd through 5th graders on a variety of areas including how they feel as learners in their classrooms and how well they understand why the topics covered in the classroom are important.

Our second goal focuses on instructional practices.  Our goal will be to continue to work in teacher teams to examine student data and intentionally target areas where we see gaps.  We will specifically focus on increasing vocabulary and reading comprehension.

Finally, our Equity focus is committing to knowing and including  families and students.  We are intent on moving from reflecting on the impacts of our biases  to taking visible action that builds relationships and intentionally cultivates a sense of belonging.

Thank you for partnering with us!

Sincerely,

Katy French and Sara Davis

Sincerely,
Katy French

Keeping Students Safe Before & After School

You may have noticed our 5th grade Patrol Squad began their duties and are working to keep students and families safe as they cross the busy roads to get to and from school.  The staff thanks you in advance for slowing down and following the Patrols’ signals to keep everyone safe.  If you drop off and pick up students in our car loop, please turn RIGHT only out of the parking lot to keep our patrols and crossers safe.

In addition, please remind your students the designated areas to wait before school starts in the morning:

If you arrive by car, please wait on the sidewalk by the car loop against the fence.

If you arrive by walk-up, please wait on the concrete area near the undercover area. Note: the playground is not open in the mornings. There is no adult supervisor, therefore it is not safe for students to play on the playground before school.

If you arrive by bus, please wait in the undercover area.

Thank you for your help keeping the students safe!

Health Room News

Vision and Hearing Screening scheduled for October 6, 2022.
Each year in Northshore schools, students in grades Kindergarten, 1, 2, 3, 5, and 7 receive hearing and vision screenings. If you would like to exempt your child from either of these health screenings, please contact the school nurse at franklovenurse@nsd.org or 425-408-4606.

It is important to understand that these are basic screenings and are designed to identify students who may require further testing. They are not intended to replace regular exams by qualified health care providers. A student who does not pass any screening will be rechecked in a few weeks, and you will be notified only if there are concerns after the second screening.

3 more Volunteers Needed! We need 3 more volunteers to help us run the day smoothly. There are a variety of important jobs that parents do, including assisting the team with getting students, record keeping and “crowd control”. Please consider this opportunity to work with us.

You will need to complete the volunteer background check - as it needs to be renewed every year.  Once complete, please email franklovenurse@nsd.org to reserve your volunteer spot.

If you have questions, please contact the school nurse,  Thank you for helping to keep Frank Love Elementary healthy and safe.

Note from our School Counselor

Hello Families,

This week I visited our 1st and 2nd grade classrooms. I reminded the students about my role as the school counselor. We reviewed some of our learning from last year and it was awesome to hear what they remembered. I asked our students for input about SEL lessons this year. I re-introduced the Kelso’s Choice wheel, which is a tool we use to teach students how to solve their own small problems. They were excited to use my Kelso and Lily puppets to act out some problem solving scenarios. Find out more about Kelso's Choice.

Family Resources: Part of my role is to help connect families with resources. Please fill out this form to find out about resources in our community for families in need, and we will contact you when we hear about available resources.

Request to Receive Information about Resources.
